The Market Research Society of Sri Lanka (MRSSL) hosted its first members’ evening called the ‘Learning Zone’ recently at the Hilton Colombo Residences, providing an insight into the importance and strengths of Market Research.

The event was organized by the Membership Drive Committee of MRSSL, and patronized by research, analysis and field staff of key research agencies of Sri Lanka such as Breakthrough Business Intelligence, LMRB, Nielsen, Quantum, RCB, SRL and TNS Lanka. The patrons of MRSSL, Mr. Tissa de Alwis, Mr. Nihal de Silva and Mr. Eardley Perera handed over the corporate membership certificates to the research agencies.

The event was sponsored by AIA Insurance, Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, Dialog Axiata PLC, Fonterra Brands Lanka, Media Factory (Pvt) Ltd and Nestlé Lanka PLC, who were awarded corporate membership by MRSSL.

The speakers at this occasion were well-known personalities such as Mr. Deepal Sooriyaarachchi, Management Consultant, Mr. Rakesh Khosla, Marketing Director, Hemas Consumer Brands, and Mr. D.C.A Gunawardena, former Director General of Census & Statistics, who shared their views and experiences regarding the use of market research.

MRSSL used the meeting as an opportunity to inspire and invite budding research professionals to contribute to the growth of the market research industry by becoming members of MRSSL. The Membership Drive had the primary goal of attracting new members and enhancing the interest levels of the public about MRSSL. Those who gathered at the event were introduced to MRSSL’s membership packages, while a raffle draw was held to grant free membership to the lucky winners.

One of the key objectives of the Membership Drive is to showcase why people should join MRSSL, the ‘Learning Zone’ being one such event where researchers were able to draw on each others experiences and also gather a collective understanding of the importance with which the Market Research industry is perceived.

Speaking about the event, Mr. Ravi Bamunusinghe, President, MRSSL, said “The Market Research Industry is shifting gears these days, and events like this help immensely in ensuring that bright young talent who have joined the market research industry stay within the industry. We hope that listening to and interacting with such distinguished speakers will inspire them to choose market research as their long term career option.”
